Karl Malone of the Utah Jazz, who averaged a league-leading 28.7 points per game during April, won the NBA player of the month award on Tuesday.

Malone averaged 13.4 rebounds and 4.5 assists during the month. He shot .548 from the field and .742 from the foul line.

For the season, Malone was fourth in scoring with 26.7 points per game and ninth in rebounding with 10.6 per game.
