Former Idaho State University basketball star Steve Hayes is the school’s new head women’s basketball coach.

Hayes is executive director of the Bengal Foundation and director of athletic development, titles he will retain.

Hayes played for the Bengals from 1973 to 1977 and remains fifth on the Big Sky Conference career scoring list. He led Idaho State to a 76-75 victory over UCLA in the second round of the 1977 NCAA tournament.
