Rivalry Duals Mark Frontier

It’s “Hump Day” for the Frontier League track teams, marked by the rivalry duals.

However, a little more than bragging rights are on line when East Valley visits West Valley for the 3:30 meet.

On the girls side, both teams are 2-0. If East Valley can pull off a win, the Knights have a good chance of ending the Eagles’ three-year reign as champions with two Thursdays of league meets left.

The WV boys need a win if they hope to win a league title. East Valley is 2-0, with a matchup next week against Clarkston, which tied defending champion Cheney the first week and beat West Valley (1-1) last week.

The other matchups are Cheney at Colville and Pullman at Clarkston. Cheney and Pullman girls are 1-1, Clarkston and Colville are 0-2. For the boys, Clarkston is 1-0-1, Pullman 1-1, Cheney 0-1-1 and Colville 0-2.

The Greater Spokane League titles should also be decided today when Ferris visits Mead for a 3:45 meet. Both boys teams are 4-0, while the Mead girls are 4-0 and Ferris is 3-1. The third team in the triple-dual is Gonzaga Prep (boys and girls 2-2).

The other key matchup is at Central Valley. Besides being rivals, the U-Hi and CV girls are 3-1. If CV wants nexts week’s finale at Mead to be for the league title, the Bears must beat the Titans. The third team is LC, the girls are 1-3. For the boys, CV is 3-1, U-Hi is 2-2 and LC 0-4. CV would be next in line to challenge Mead, which has won 127 straight dual meets. The streak for the Mead girls is 25.

The third meet is at North Central, with Shadle Park and Rogers. Shadle Park is 2-2, Rogers 1-3 and NC 0-4 on both the boys and girls side. A sweep by Shadle Park would guarantee the Highlanders a .500 record for the first time in years.
