Plan To Cut Day-Care Subsidy Is Target Of Protesters
Child care advocates rallied in windy Riverfront Park on Thursday afternoon to protest federal plans to cut day-care center subsidies.
Children and parents carried signs stating, “I love my day care” and “Make lunch not war.”
About 50 adults and children heard speeches from concerned day-care providers and parents who fear the U.S. Congress will cut a nutrition subsidy that helps day-care providers pocket enough money to stay in business.
The proposal has already passed the House and now faces the Senate.
Another rally for children is planned for Monday in Riverfront Park. The “MAYDAY!” rally begins at 10 a.m., at the Red Wagon.
