Children Start Fires With Lighters
Children playing with cigarette lighters were responsible for starting two separate fires last weekend.
A 2-year-old girl lit clothes in a closet on fire Saturday morning with her mother’s cigarette lighter. The girl’s mother, Debbi Hunt, was using a pan of water to put out the fire when firefighters arrived at the home on the 17400 block of East Broadway.
The fire was confined to the closet and causing about $250 worth of damage. No one was injured.
On Friday afternoon, two children, ages 7 and 4, reportedly started a fire on the 500 block of North Barker Road.
They had found a cigarette lighter and used it to set fire to an old shed. Their mother, Cheryl Campbell, put out the fire with a garden house.
