The strength and conditioning coach at Colorado State has resigned to take the position of athletic director at the Spokane Club.

Tom Richardson, 38, has been at CSU since 1987, after serving as strength and conditioning coach at Wyoming.

Andrea Peron of Italy, with an ironic assist from the race favorites, won the second stage by 1.4 seconds to lead the Tour DuPont in Richmond, Va.

Peron, 23, a first-year rider for the U.S.-based Motorola team, claimed the 88-mile Fredericksburg-to-Richmond road race in 3 hours, 9 minutes, 45 seconds.

With a 10-second time bonus, Peron moved into the race lead by 5 seconds over teammate Lance Armstrong of Austin, Texas, who finished second.<
