Tropical Storm Claims Fishermen

Compiled From Wire Services

High winds whipped up by a tropical storm sank four fishing boats Monday off Taiwan’s coast, killing two people and leaving 19 missing. Heavy rains also unleashed mudslides in the Philippines and pushed reservoirs above flood-warning levels in northeastern China.

Tropical Storm Gary lashed the Taiwan Straits separating Taiwan from mainland China.

Two fishermen died and two others were missing after their boat capsized near the outlying Quemoy islands, Taiwanese police said. Rescuers saved 21 people.
