Hay Truck Catches Fire In ‘No Man’s Land’

From where Willy Bleyenberg stood, Franklin County’s Fire District 3, a half-mile away, looked like a mirage.

There he was, with his truck trailer on fire and no firefighters - because the spot where Bleyenberg pulled over when he saw hay bales smoking on his trailer turned out to be no man’s land, where residents had voted against fire protection.

another fire on the back of his trailer erupted. That’s when Franklin County sheriff’s Sgt. Rick Kent arrived and pointed to the spot where Fire District 3 begins. Bleyenberg hopped back into the cab and drove. In minutes, firefighters extinguished the fire.
