Magazine Features Cabin’s Lakeside Luxury

A national magazine - Log Home Living - features the beautiful Priest Lake cabin of Bill and Jackie Pancake in its September issue.

The cabin is not all log construction, but rather utilizes cedar shakes outside and pine paneling inside. The magazine is worth checking out to see the shots of the interior of this gorgeous lakeside home.

New hues: The newest color in kitchen appliances is not avocado, harvest gold or even white. No, according to Amana, a major producer of stoves, refrigerators and dishwashers, it is stainless steel.

The “stainless look” is considered a neutral hue that will not go out of style for the 10- to 15-year life of most kitchen appliances.

In your spare time: A large number of baby boomers have taken up woodworking as a hobby, according to a survey conducted by American Woodworker magazine.

Results of the survey (and keep in mind the source) showed nearly 10 percent of the U.S. adult population - 17 million people - engaged in woodworking, spending $7 billion a year on tools and supplies.

And yet another survey: The results of a survey by Organic Gardening magazine revealed women constitute 57 percent of all adult gardeners in this country, that 87 percent own at least one piece of outdoor power equipment, and the likelihood of a gardener owning a chain saw increases dramatically with the level of gardening experience. Only 27 percent of gardeners who describe themselves as beginners own chain saws; among the intermediate gardeners, 43 percent own a chain saw.

Looking ahead: Those making plans for next year already can send for a free month-by-month calendar from Cheer, the detergent company. No, the photos in the calendar are not of people doing laundry. They are instead of people having fun in brightly colored clothes. To get a calendar, send a check for 85 cents (for postage) and your address to: Cheer Calendar Offer, PO Box 2255, Maple Plain, MN 55593.

From the you heard it here first file: A mixture of ground gladiolus seed pods and goat or donkey milk is not a remedy for colic. The topic arose because gladiolus are the flower of the month for August, picked by a national public relations firm promoting fresh flower use. Modern medicine has proven this gladiolus medicinal myth to be untrue.

Those looking to September can note the flower that month is the snapdragon.
