Rex Grateful To Garcia

To memorialize rock star Jerry Garcia, Ben & Jerry’s will donate 50 cents to a Grateful Dead-affiliated charity for each cup or cone of Cherry Garcia sold over the next few days.

Garcia, the band’s guitarist, died Wednesday in California from an apparent heart attack.

“For every serving of Cherry Garcia, we’ll give 50 cents to the Rex Foundation,” said Ben & Jerry’s spokesman Rob Michalak. “We’ll do that until Jerry’s funeral or whatever they have. That should end up being a significant contribution to the Rex Foundation.”

The donations will be separate from past donations that the ice cream maker made to the same foundation.
