Wilma Burns Rathdrum, Idaho

Visitation for Wilma Wright Burns, 79, will be from 1-5 p.m. Sunday at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home.Service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Rathdrum United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Burns, who was born in Rathdrum, died Thursday at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston.

She attended nurses training school at Deaconess Hospital in Spokane, graduating in 1938. She joined the Army in 1943 and served as a nurse in England during World War II. she ended her military service in 1945.

She married Louis Wright in 1946 and they lived in Wisconsin before returning to Idaho. She continued her nursing career and worked for the Spirit Lake Hospital, Pinewood Manor Nursing Home and Kootenai Memorial Hospital. She retired in 1978 and her husband died a year later.

In 1986 she married Marion Burns and they spent their winters in California.

Mrs. Burns was a member of the Wayside Club, the Rathdrum United Methodist Church and was active with the Rathdrum Senior Citizens. She also served as worthy matron of Clover Chapter 33, Order of the Eastern Stars.

She enjoyed helping others and continued her acts of caregiving as a recent resident of the Idaho State Veterans Home in Lewiston.

She was preceded in death by her husbands and two brothers.

Survivors include four sons, Richard and Lawrence Wright, both of Spokane, Thomas Wright of Weippe, Idaho, and Glenn Wright of Rathdrum; two brothers, Arthur Edelblute of Poulsbo,Wash., and Walter Edelblute of Arizona; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Onny Oquist Superior, Mont.

Service for Onny Linnea Oquist, 84, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Superior. Livingston-Malleta and Geraghty Funeral Home in Missoula is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Oquist, born in Sweden, died Wednesday.

She left Sweden in 1927 and worked in Spokane for several years. She then moved to Harrison and St. Maries, Idaho.

She and her husband, Henry Oquist, moved to Newport, Wash., in 1938 and to Superior in 1958.

She worked for Mineral County Hospital in Montana for several years as a housekeeper.

Her husband died in 1983.

Survivors include one son, Arthur Oquist of Spokane; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Berna Easton Davenport

Memorial service for Berna M. Easton, 75, will be at 10 a.m. today at Harrington Community Congregational Church. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Harrington. Strate Funeral Home in Davenport is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Easton died Wednesday.

Born in Harrington, Mrs. Easton graduated from Cheney High School.

She and her husband, Elmer Easton, lived in Cheney until 1945, when they moved to Harrington to farm on his wife’s family farm. They operated the farm until they retired in 1982.

During the 1970s, Mrs. Easton also managed the Harrington Golf and Country Club.

She was a member of Harrington Community Congregational Church, Bluestem Grange, Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile and Rainbow Girls, and was active in the Washington Association of Wheat Growers and the Boy Scouts of America.

Her husband died in 1992.

She is survived by three sons, Brud Easton of Kirkland, Wash., Scott Easton of Newport, Wash., and Roy Easton of the Czech Republic; one daughter, JoAnn Gooley of Harrington; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lincoln County Chapter of the American Cancer Society and to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.

Rose Bell Spokane

Graveside service for Rose Marie Bell, 93, is planned for 10 a.m. today at Newport (Wash.) Cemetery with Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bell died Thursday at Mountainside Nursing Home in Sandpoint, where she had lived for the past year.

Born in Council, Alaska, she was a homemaker and a member of the Eagles Auxiliary.

Her husband, Russell Bell, died in 1986.

Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Heath of Spokane and Gladys Duley of Newport; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Magdalena ‘Maggie’ Smith Spokane

Service for Magdalena A. “Maggie” Smith, 90, is set for 11 a.m. Monday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Cremation will follow.

Miss Smith, who died Wednesday, was born in North Dakota. She had lived in Vancouver, Wash., and attended the Vancouver School of the Blind before moving to Spokane. She had lived at Lakeland Village since 1931, where she was in charge of the clothing room at Grant Hall. She moved to Pineview Group Home in 1970.

There are no surviving family members.

Otto Stokke Newman Lake

A family memorial gathering in remembrance of Otto J. Stokke will be at 11 a.m. today at the family home in Newman Lake. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Stokke, 79, died Tuesday.

He was born in Emerick, N.D.

He worked for the East Valley School District for 25 years as a custodian and retired in 1980.

Mr. Stokke had lived in Spokane for 56 years.

He was a World War II Army veteran.

Mr. Stokke was a member of Tri-Community Grange 1008 in Newman Lake.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Barbara; two sons, Robert Stokke of Newcastle, Wash., and Steve Stokke of Newman Lake; two daughters, Janice Sollock of Mount Pleasant, Ark., and Nancy Kissling of Yakima; three brothers, Benhard, Agel and Don Stokke, all of Spokane; three sisters, Roberta Siguaw of Deer Park, and Muriel McMahill and Yvonne Kavockvich, both of Spokane; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

William Martens Medical Lake

No service will be held for William H. Martens, 78, at his request.

Born in Milbank, S.D., Mr. Martens died Monday.

He had worked for the state of Washington as a counselor at Lakeland Village and had previously retired from the Air Force.

He moved to Spokane in 1967 from Newport, Wash.

He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

His wife, Darlene Martens, preceded him in death.

Survivors include four stepdaughters, Leslie Powers of Cheney, Vickie Moxcey of Lamont, Wash., Mary Hisaw of Spokane and Julie Truesdale of Medical Lake; one brother, Richard Martens of Kennewick; 12 grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Medical Lake Community Center.

Charlotte McIntosh Spokane

Service for Charlotte McIntosh, 71, is set for 10 a.m. today at Church of God of Prophecy. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. McIntosh, who died Thursday, was born in Cheyenne, Wyo.

She had lived in Spokane for 31 years and was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy where she was a Sunday school teacher, missionary leader and prayer warrior.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Howard McIntosh; two sons, Raymond McIntosh of Peoria, Ariz., and Keith McIntosh of Spokane; three daughters, Phyllis Daily of Federal Way, Wash., Teri Lipscomb of Peoria and Darla Reams of Spokane; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Elmer Haarstick Spokane

Memorial service for Elmer Michael Haarstick, 90, is set for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pines Mausoleum. There will be private family inurnment. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Haarstick died Wednesday at home.

He was born in Mankato, Minn.

He had farmed in Minnesota and moved to Spokane 35 years ago. He worked for Veradale Power Co., for 15 years.

He had served in the Coast Guard and was a member of Hope Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife of two years, Jeanette Haarstick.

Robert Lang Idaho City, Idaho

Memorial service for Robert M. Lang, 56, will be Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 26th and Pine Road, in the Spokane Valley.

Mr. Lang, who was born in Portland, died July 7 in an automobile accident along the middle fork of the Boise River.

He grew up in Boise and later played minor league baseball for the Boston Red Sox farm club while attending Yakima Junior College.

He lived in various parts of Eastern Washington before moving to Twin Falls, Idaho, in 1992.

In 1993 he moved to Idaho City, where he owned and operated Diamond Lil’s Bar and Restaurant. He later became a salesman and spent his summers in Mountain Home.

Mr. Lang was an avid shooter and outdoorsman who loved duck hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Spokane Gun Club, the National Rifle Association and Ducks Unlimited. He was also very active in softball and Little League baseball.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Lynne; a son, Tim Lang, and a daughter, Kelli Pemble, both of Spokane; his mother, Myrtle Lang of Spokane; a sister, LinneaWilcox of Boise; and two grandchildren.

Harold Remington Spokane

No service will be held for Harold A. Remington, 70, at his request. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Remington, who was born in Mott, N.D., died Sunday.

He graduated from North Central High School and had lived in Spokane for 58 years.

Mr. Remington had worked as a carpenter for the East Valley School District.

He was a World War II Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Ida Remington.

Timothy Waddington Spokane

Service for Timothy Robert Waddington, 40, will be at 1 p.m. today at Riverside Memorial Park. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of cremation.

Mr. Waddington, who was born in Seattle, died Sunday at home.

He graduated from Cheney High School and Evergreen State College.

Mr. Waddington operated a small desktop publishing company, Downriver Productions, out of his home. He was also a photographer.

His companion, Robert Ankney, died in December.

Survivors include his father and stepmother, William and Patricia Waddington of Olympia; his mother, Elizabeth Waddington of Issaquah, Wash.; three brothers, William Waddington of Bainbridge Island, Wash., John Waddington of Spokane and Jeffrey Waddington of Tumwater, Wash.; one sister, Beth Holben of Richland; and two stepsisters, Stephanie and Sharron Coontz, both of Olympia.

Paul Hallauer Pullman

Service for Paul Arnold Hallauer, 32, is set for 2 p.m. today at Simpson United Methodist Church in Pullman. Kimball Funeral Home of Pullman is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hallauer died Monday at home from complications of diabetes.

He was born in Winner, S.D.

He moved to Clarkston, Wash., with his family as a child and to Colfax, Wash., in 1969.

He graduated from Colfax High School and worked at Whitman Hospital and Medical Center for two years. He later worked at Washington State University with the news bureau.

Mr. Hallauer also served as a coach for summer baseball teams and kept statistics for the Washington State University track, football and basketball teams.

He was a member of Divine Savior Lutheran Church in Pullman.

Survivors include his parents, Kenneth and Carolyn Hallauer of Colfax; three sisters, Ruth McDonagh of Mountlake Terrace, Wash., Cynthia Hulse of Palouse, Wash., and Janet Luft of Endicott, Wash.; and two brothers, Scott Hallauer of Minneapolis and Timothy Hallauer of Keokuk, Iowa.

Glenn Beckley Spokane

Memorial service for Glenn L. Beckley, 71, will be at a later date. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Beckley, who died Monday, was born in Cascade, Idaho.

He moved from Grangeville, Idaho, 20 years ago and settled in Spokane and the Hauser Lake area.

He worked as a lumber broker and independent sawyer before retiring in 1980.

Mr. Beckley served in the Army during World War II and was a member of the Post Falls American Legion and the Valley Senior Center.

He is survived by his former wife, Mary Jane Beckley; two sons, Vance and Joseph Beckley; two daughters, Joanne Elliott and Kay Walkup; two sisters, June Merzenich of Lebanon, Ore., and Louise Risco of Springfield, Fla.; and 12 grandchildren.

Gilbert John Spokane

Memorial service for Gilbert J. John, retired Army lieutenant colonel, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Whitworth Community Presbyterian Church.

Mr. John, who was born in Elsinor, Mo., died Aug. 3. He was 64.

He graduated from Washington State University and received a master’s degree from Gonzaga University in guidance counseling.

He served in the Army from 1953 through 1974.

He was a counselor at Riverside High School from 1975 through 1990.

Mr. John was a member of Whitworth Community Presbyterian Church and Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Janet; one son, Michael John of Colville, Wash.; two daughters, Linda John of Spokane and Karen John of Yakima; his mother, Elsie John of Blaine, Wash.; two brothers, James John of Blaine and George John of Vista, Calif.; one sister, Lavoun Hoffman of Blaine; and two grandchildren.

Helen Hanley Spokane

Memorial service for Helen M. Hanley, 78, is set for 4 p.m. Tuesday. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home in in charge of arrangements.

Born in Marshall, Mo., Mrs. Hanley died Aug. 4.

Mrs. Hanley was co-owner with her husband of Acme TV for 50 years.

Her husband, Arch Hanley, died in 1993.

She is survived by two sons, Jim and Robert Hanley, both of Spokane; one sister, Martha Stout of Marathon, Fla.; and three grandchildren.
