Bernard Gallagher Spokane

Funeral Mass for former state Rep. Bernard J. Gallagher, 83, was Aug. 7 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.

Mr. Gallagher, a Spokane attorney, died Aug. 3.

Born in Prosser, Wash., Mr. Gallagher graduated from Gonzaga Preparatory School, Gonzaga University and Gonzaga Law School.

He served as Democratic representative from the 5th Legislative District from 1941 until 1943. He served in the Army during World War II and then served as representative from the 3rd Legislative District from 1949 until 1959.

He practiced law in Spokane.

His wife, Phyllis Gallagher, died in 1989.

Survivors include two sons, Bernard Gallagher Jr. of Alexandria, La., and Paul Gallagher of Everett; two daughters, Mary Dilley of Vashon, Wash., and Margaret Richards of Spokane; one brother, Gene Gallagher of Spokane; two sisters, Lucille Curran of St. Paul, Minn., and Mary Parker of Shelby, Mont.; and 11 grandchildren.

Robert Lang Idaho City, Idaho

Memorial service for Robert Lang, 56, will be Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 26th and Pines Road, in the Spokane Valley.

Mr. Lang, who was born in Portland, died July 7 in an automobile accident along the Middle Fork of the Boise River.

He grew up in Boise and later played minor league baseball for the Boston Red Sox farm club while attending Yakima Junior College.

He lived in the Spokane area for 30 years, working as a sales representative in Washington, Idaho, and Montana before moving to Alaska for several years. He moved to Twin Falls, Idaho, in 1991 and then to Idaho City, where he owned and operated Diamond Lil’s Bar and Restaurant.

Mr. Lang was an avid outdoorsman and shooter who enjoyed fishing and duck hunting.

He was a member of the Spokane Gun Club, the National Rifle Association and Ducks Unlimited. He was also very active in softball and Little League baseball.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Lynne; one son, Tim Lang and one daughter Kelli Pemble, both of Spokane; his mother, Myrtle Lang of Spokane; a sister, Linnea Wilcox of Boise; and three grandchildren.

Duane Edwards Clarkston, Wash.

Memorial service for Duane M. Edwards, 65, is planned for 2 p.m. Friday at Merchant Funeral Home in Clarkston.

Born in Woodward, Okla., Mr. Edwards died last Tuesday.

He had lived in Deer Park from 1972 until 1983.

Mr. Edwards was a self-employed carpenter and builder.

He was a member of the Eagles Lodge, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Elks Lodge and Clayton Grange 456, and was a volunteer fireman while living in Deer Park.

He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Gladys Edwards; two sons, James Edwards and Dean Edwards, both of Snohomish, Wash.; two daughters, Brenda Cassidy of Marysville, Wash., and Cathy Lyons of Snohomish; one sister, Leora Benningfield of Kirkland, Wash.; and 11 grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association.

Clyde Miller St. Maries

Memorial service for Clyde J. Miller, 82, will be today at 11 a.m. at the Community Presbyterian Church in St. Maries. Yates-Hodge Funeral Home in St. Maries is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Miller, who was born in Plummer, Idaho, died Thursday in St. Maries.

He grew up in the Minaloosa Valley and graduated from Plummer High School. He attended the University of Idaho and went on to teach music in New Meadows and Meridian, Idaho.

He married Hyrtha Wright in 1935 and moved to Plummer in the 1940s. He was a forester all his life and worked in blister rust camps during World War II.

He moved to St. Maries in 1954.

Mr. Miller was a member and past choir director of the Community Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club, the Retired Teachers Association and the Native Plant Society.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1993.

Survivors include his daughter, Joan Lindsey of Iowa; two brothers, Ted and Henry Miller; and three grandchildren.

Kendra Grantham Spokane

Service for Kendra R. Grantham, 16, will be at 2 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home, with private inurnment at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Miss Grantham was shot and killed Wednesday.

She was born in Spokane and would have attended Rogers High School in the fall as a senior.

She is survived by her mother, Mabel Grantham of Cheney; her father, Raymond Fry of Sacramento, Calif.; her grandparents, Reggie Davis Sr. and Geraldine Davis, both of Spokane; and her half-sister, Deena Fry of Spokane.

Cecil Karber Spokane

Service for Cecil G. Karber, 64, is planned for 2 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home.

Mr. Karber, a 30-year Spokane resident, died Friday at home of cancer.

He was born in Hope, Ark.

Mr. Karber was an operating engineer and was a member of Operating Engineers Union Local 370.

He was a veteran of the Korean War, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1435 and the Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Shirley Karber; one daughter, Cheryl Jacques of Spokane; two sisters, Louise Rogers of Mead and Janie Karber of Spokane; one brother, Don Karber of St. Maries; and four grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice of Spokane, the American Cancer Society or the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Rev. Denis Chicoine Spokane

Rosary for the Rev. Denis Chicoine, 57, is set for 7:30 p.m. today at Mount St. Michaels. Burial Mass will be at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mount St. Michaels, with burial to follow at Holy Rosary Cemetery at Mount St. Michaels. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

The Rev. Chicoine, who was born in New Bedford, Mass., died Thursday of cancer.

He had lived in Spokane for 22 years and served as superior general for Mary Immaculate Queen congregation.

The Rev. Chicoine had served as a missionary priest throughout the United States and New Zealand.

He is survived by his father, Joseph Chicoine; one sister, Jean Chicoine; and one brother, Steve Chicoine.

Keith Daniels Yakima

Graveside service for M. Keith Daniels, 73, is set for 1 p.m. today at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene. Keith and Keith Funeral Home of Yakima is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Daniels, who was born in Worley, Idaho, died Friday at home.

He operated a hardware and implement store in Fairfield before moving to Yakima in 1964.

Mr. Daniels is survived by his wife, Yvonne Daniels; three daughters, Judith Shoudy of Tacoma, Patrice Hyink of Yakima and Kristen Fitzpatrick of California; one son, Larry Daniels of Girdwood, Alaska; and six grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Lutheran Church, Young Life of Yakima or Hospice of Yakima.

Clarence ‘Dutch’ Clausen Spangle

Memorial service for Clarence Eggert “Dutch” Clausen, 76, is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.

Mr. Clausen, who died Friday, was born in Spangle.

He graduated from Spangle High School and was a farmer.

Mr. Clausen was a member of the Spangle Masonic Lodge 131, the Order of the Eastern Star and the El Katif Shrine.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Elaine Clausen; three sons, Jeffrey Clausen of Portland, and Gordon and Kurt Clausen, both of Spokane; two daughters, Roxanne Buege of Spokane and Sharon Appenzeller of San Diego; one sister, Sylvia Konshuk of Spangle; and three granddaughters.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children.

Alfred Krupke Spokane

Service for Alfred E. Krupke, 93, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Strate Funeral Home in Davenport, Wash. Burial will be at the Reardan (Wash.) Cemetery.

Mr. Krupke died Saturday in Spokane, where he had lived for the past two years.

Born in Minnesota, he moved to the Reardan and Davenport area in 1911.

He was a retired wheat farmer and was a member of Reardan United Methodist Church.

His wife, Marguerite, died in 1988.

He is survived by three brothers, Erick, Eldred and Earl Krupke, all of Spokane.

Ethel Vietzke Colville, Wash.

Service for Ethel Mae Vietzke, 90, was Monday at Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville.

Mrs. Vietzke, a 40-year Colville resident, died Thursday in Ellensburg while visiting there.

She was born in Eureka, Mont.

Mrs. Vietzke and her husband, Harold, moved to Cle Elum and she cooked in logging camps that her husband worked in. In 1934 they moved to Ellensburg, where she operated a lunch counter.

They moved to Colville in 1959 and built the Southtown Drive-In, where the D&P Restaurant now stands. They operated that restaurant until they retired in 1966.

Mr. Vietzke died in 1992.

She was a member of the Colville Rebekah Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by one daughter, Peggy Hull of Colville; one son, Don Vietzke of Ellensburg; five grandchildren, seven greatgrandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Elwood ‘Bud’ Hayen Spokane

Memorial service for Elwood F. “Bud” Hayen, 86, is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hayen died July 17. Born in Enid, Okla., he was a graduate of the University of Oklahoma.

A 42-year Spokane resident, Mr. Hayen worked for Continental Baking for 45 years and retired in 1974 as plant manager.

He was a member of the Spokane Central Lions Club and Westerners International and was active in the Spokane Area Chamber of Commerce.

He is survived by his wife, Edna Hayen; three sons, Philip Hayen of Concord, Mass., Donald Hayen of Long Beach, Calif., and David Hayen of Culver City, Calif.; two sisters, Grace Uker and Pauline Stockton, both of San Anselmo, Calif.; and three granddaughters.

Lena Dyer Spokane

Service for Lena Gorden Dyer, 100, was Monday at Central Lutheran Church. Burial was at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Dyer, a 74-year Spokane resident, died Thursday.

Born in Hetland, S.D., Mrs. Dyer taught elementary school in the Sandpoint area before she was married.

Following her husband Alvin’s death in 1953, she worked as a housemother at Sacred Heart School of Nursing for 16 years.

She was a member of Central Lutheran Church and a charter member of the Drury Lane Drama Club.

She is survived by two daughters, Doris Johnson of Mount Horeb, Wis., and Donna Dieckman of Spokane; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Blanche Carr Spokane

Memorial service for Blanche Carr, 90, will be in Montana at a later date. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Miss Carr, a 75-year Spokane resident, died Thursday.

She was born in Plains, Mont., and worked for Western Pine and Boise Cascade for 45 years.

She is survived by one sister, Della Gray of Spokane; and two brothers, Norris Carr of Spokane and Norman Carr of Hot Springs, Mont.

Billy McInturff Spokane

Private cremation was planned for Billy Ray McInturff, 59. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. McInturff, who died Aug. 7, was born in Oklahoma City.

He had lived in Spokane for 32 years and worked for the city of Spokane Water Department.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Helen McInturff; two sons, Kevin and Matthew; three daughters, Cindy, Karen and Chrisann; two brothers, one sister and seven grandchildren.
