Sac State Scores Points

Compiled From Wire Services

A four-member commission from the Big Sky Conference wrapped up its two-day visit to Sacramento State and unlike the failed visit of 1992, the commission left with an entirely different impression. This time, the members liked what they saw and heard.

“Things look very promising here,” said Mark Drummond, president of Eastern Washington and the conference chairman.

The seven-member Big Sky Conference mandates 63 football scholarships and if Sac State wants to join the conference next fall, it must provide the minimum number of scholarships.

Conference commissioner Doug Fullerton said he likes “what Sacramento has to offer; but we’re the No. 1-ranked Division I-AA conference in the nation, and we don’t intend to drop that. That means Sacramento State committing to 63 scholarships in football.”
