Worker Gives Chase; 3 Suspects Arrested

From Staff And Wire Reports

An Albertsons employee went beyond the call of duty early Wednesday morning by jumping onto the trunk of a shoplifter’s getaway car.

But the employee’s heroics were thwarted when the car’s occupants sprayed him with pepper Mace through the broken rear window of the blue-gray Honda. The employee rolled off the trunk.

David M. Sosville, 21, and Andrew Ryan Smith, 19, and a 16-year-old male, all of Spokane, were arrested for second degree robbery.

At about 3 a.m. Wednesday, a man was reported stealing several large containers of laundry detergent and propane gas bottles from the Millwood branch of Albertsons Food and Drug Stores, which is open 24 hours.

A store employee, whose name was not released by police or Albertsons, chased the man outside and climbed onto the trunk of the car.

After being sprayed, the employee fell off the car. The employee was treated for an eye injury, but not hospitalized.

The car was stopped by a sheriff’s deputy near Spokane Community College.
