Two Hurt In Accident Near Cheney

From Staff And Wire Reports

A one-car roll-over accident two miles west of Cheney on Friday evening sent two girls to the hospital in serious condition.

Lori A. Olberding, 16, and Kate L. Tomlinson, 8, were both ejected as the car they were riding in rolled into a ditch.

Both were transported to Deaconness Medical Center.

Olberding was westbound on Salnave Road between Granite Lake and Dover Road about 4:15 p.m. when her car went off the right side of the road. The car rolled twice and came to rest on its wheels in the ditch.

Neither Olberding nor Tomlinson was wearing a seat belt.

Olberding, a Cheney resident, suffered a fractured wrist, laceration to her liver and possible head injuries, the Washington State Patrol said. She underwent surgery late Friday and was scheduled to be admitted to the intensive care unit in critical condition.

Tomlinson is being treated for multiple scrapes and bruises. She was listed in serious condition in the pediatric intensive care unit.
