More Cruise Ship Passengers May Be Able To Visit Glacier Bay

From Wire Reports

More cruise passengers would be able to visit Alaska’s Glacier Bay National Park under a new proposal by the National Park Service.

The plan would increase by up to 72 percent the number of ships arriving during June, July and August.

Federal studies have concluded that more cruise traffic would not endanger the gray whales and sea lions that live in the bay. It would not change the maximum number of ships per day - two - allowed in the bay. But it would expand the overall number by permitting more ships early and late in the summer season.

The park service is holding hearings on its proposal and will accept public comment through Aug. 5. The expansion could occur for next summer’s cruise season.

For more information on the proposal, contact the park, (907) 697-2230.

Fan-fare

Many baseball fans aspired to visit the Baltimore Orioles’ new stadium at Camden Yards during the first two seasons it was open, but getting a ticket was almost impossible because every seat was sold out.

This year at Camden Yards, as is the case at every other stadium in the country, attendance is down significantly in the aftermath of the baseball strike, and buying tickets to watch a game in the stadium praised for its traditional scale is just a matter of making a phone call. The number for the Orioles’ schedule and to order tickets is (410) 685-9800. Baltimore’s toll-free tourism number is (800) 282-6632.
