From Staff And Wire Reports

Unleaded retail gasoline prices are averaging 2 cents per gallon less than a year ago as the last big driving weekend of the summer approaches, the American Automobile Association said Tuesday.

Self-serve regular unleaded gasoline averaged $1.178 per gallon nationwide this month, the auto club said.

The survey, conducted by Computer Petroleum Corp. of St. Paul, Minn., showed self-serve regular unleaded was most expensive in the West at $1.267 per gallon and cheapest in the Southeast at $1.116.
