Mercenary Gets Life For Role In Haiti Murder
A former police hireling was sentenced Friday to life at hard labor for his part in the murder of Antoine Izmery, a friend and campaign fundraiser for President Jean-Bertrand Aristide.
Gerard Gustave was one of more than a dozen people implicated in Izmery’s murder. The others are believed to be in the Dominican Republic, and have 10 days to appear in court or face trial in absentia.
Izmery was killed in September 1993 outside the midtown Sacre Coeur Catholic church, where he had been commemorating the fifth anniversary of the burning of St. Jean Bosco Church, where Aristide once preached.
