Teen Motorcyclist Injured In Accident

A teenager was injured Saturday afternoon when his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck in Pend Oreille County.

Ken Arthur, 18, of Newport, was riding south along Leclerc Creek Road, 3-1/2 miles north of Newport when he rear-ended a pickup driven by Donald Deerwester, troopers said.

Deerwester, 53, also of Newport, had just backed his 1985 Toyota pickup out of a driveway.

Arthur, who was wearing a helmet, was taken to Newport Hospital where he was treated for a broken leg. He was transferred to Holy Family Hospital in Spokane where he is listed in stable condition.

Deerwester’s pickup sustained $500 worth of damage. Damages to Arthur’s 1987 Honda motorcycle were estimated at $2,000.
