Philippine senators ousted their leader on Tuesday after he chose a conservative man to head the Senate Committee on Women.

Senators gave different reasons for Edgardo Angara’s ouster, but most blamed his appointment of Francisco Tatad, who opposes contraception and condemns homosexuality, to head the women’s panel.
