Eugene Blackhurst Bonners Ferry, Idaho
Service for Eugene V. “Gene” Blackhurst, 72, will be today at 10 a.m. in the Exhibit Hall of the Boundary County Fair Grounds in Bonners Ferry. Bonners Ferry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Blackhurst, who was born in Colfax, Wash., died Friday at the Community Hospital in Bonners Ferry.
He graduated from high school in Garfield, Wash., and was a farmer. He served with the Army in World War II until his discharge in 1946, when he returned to farming in Eastern Washington.
He married Alma Stragier in Spokane in 1950.
They moved to Boundary County in 1958 and raised cattle and farmed on the Ball Creek Ranch.
Mr. Blackhurst loved animals and farming and also enjoyed classical music and sports.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, two brothers and one sister.
Survivors include his wife, of Bonners Ferry; two daughters, Rachel Bennett of Forks, Wash., and Verna Blackhurst of Duvall, Wash.; one brother, Martin Blackhurst of Portland, Ore; three sisters, Joyce Nemyer of Newberg, Ore., Vonnie Welk of Portland and Nancy Goody of Phoenix, Ariz.; and two grandsons.
Edward Sullivan Cataldo, Idaho
Memorial service for Edward Sullivan, 91, will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Kellogg Funeral Chapel in Kellogg. Shoshone Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Sullivan, who was born in Sapulpa, Okla., died Aug. 18 at home.
He moved to the Silver Valley in 1912 from Oklahoma and worked at the Bunker Hill zinc plant for 40 years before retiring in 1968.
He married Lena Mack in Butte, Mont., in 1942.
Mr. Sullivan was a member of the Odd Fellow Lodge for 50 years and was also a member of the Bunker Hill 20-Year Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1980.
Survivors include one son, Jack Sullivan of Washington; one brother, Joseph Sullivan, and one sister, Grace Burden, both of St. Maries; three grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Stanley Evers Spokane
Memorial service for Stanley N. Evers, 67, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home.
Mr. Evers, who died Saturday, was born in Cusick, Wash., and graduated from high school there.
He had lived in Spokane for 45 years and worked for Metallic Art for 43 years. He served in the Marines and was a member of the Elks.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Billie; two daughters, Melanie Riggin of Spokane and Shari Montana of Missoula; two brothers, Merle Evers of Ferndale, Wash., and Glenn Evers of Anchorage, Alaska; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Oscar Hanson Spokane
Graveside service for Oscar W. Hanson, 89, is set for 11 a.m. today at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of cremation arrangements.
Mr. Hanson, who died Saturday, was born in Belfield, N.D.
He had lived in Spokane for 49 years and worked at Kaiser Aluminum in Mead for 25 years.
He had been voted Senior of the Year at the East Central Senior Center.
He is survived by four daughters, Kay Anderson, Carla Hintz and Jerri Hanson, all of Spokane, and Daryl Schleicher of Tracy, Calif.; one son, Bill Hanson of Spokane; one sister, Betty Schultz of Spokane; one brother, Ralph Hanson of Riddle, Ore.; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Forrest Hansen Spokane
Service for Forrest Samuel Hansen, 82, will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Kellogg Funeral Chapel in Kellogg. Shoshone Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hansen, a longtime Silver Valley resident, died Saturday in Spokane.
He was born in Missoula and moved to the Osburn, Idaho, area in 1958. He worked as a miner for the Sunshine Mining Co., for 21 years before retiring in 1981.
Mr. Hansen married Bertha Evans in Butte, Mont., in 1953.
He lived in Spokane for the last year due to health reasons.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Emery Hansen and Glen Malloy, and one daughter, Shirley Mace.
Survivors include his wife, at home in Spokane; two sons, Jim Hansen of Osburn and Ray Hansen of Columbus, Mont.; eight daughters, Hazel Smith and Diana Patton, both of Spokane, Sharon Messemer and Penney Cleveland, both of Seattle, Carolyn Huffman of Osburn, Sandra Jones of Deer Park, Gerry Curl of Red Lodge, Mont., and Sherri Stack of Carlin, Nev.; three stepsons, Bob Gossett and Mickey Gossett, both of Butte, Mont., and Gary Gossett of Billings, Mont.; two stepdaughters, Janice Sullivan of Butte and Linda Habben of Las Vegas, Nev.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Margaret Christy Sandpoint
Private family service will be held for Margaret Christy, 73, who died in Sandpoint on Saturday. Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Christy was born in Indianapolis, Ind., and moved to Sandpoint in 1924. She graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1940 and married Richard Christy in 1942. She loved her garden, flowers and pets.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother and one sister.
Survivors include her daughter, Sandra Merwin of Sandpoint; two grandchildren, Grant and Kristi, and one great-grandchild, Bailey.
Freda Redford Spokane
Memorial service for Freda V. Redford, 80, is planned for 11 a.m. Thursday at Redeemer Lutheran Church. There will be private inurnment. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Redford, who died Sunday at home, was born in Deerlodge, Mont.
She graduated from St. Lukes Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and worked as a registered nurse in Portland, Seattle and Spokane. She was also a volunteer at Whitman School for several years.
Mrs. Redford was a member of Millwood Presbyterian Church, the Order of the Eastern Star and St. Luke’s Alumni Association.
She is survived by one son, Lewis Miller of Spokane; one grandson and one granddaughter.
Rebecca Ringer Kettle Falls, Wash.
Memorial service for Rebecca Joan “Becky” (Dhaenens) Ringer, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Riplinger Funeral Home.
Mrs. Ringer, 34, was stabbed to death Thursday.
A homemaker, she was born in Spokane and had lived in Kettle Falls for the past three years.
She is survived by three daughters, Amanda, Melissa and Jessica Fleming, all of Colville, Wash.; her father, Robert Dhaenens of Spokane; three sisters, Cathy Youso of Libby, Mont., Monica Adkins of Spokane and Mary Ann Cart of Lehigh Acres, Fla.; and three brothers, David Dhaenens of Spokane, Timothy Dhaenens of Jacksonville, Fla., and Patrick Dhaenens of Pasco.
Zudora Marsal-Gersitz Spokane
Private family service will be held for Zudora V. Marsal-Gersitz, 76. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Marsal-Gersitz, who died Friday, was born in Des Moines, Iowa.
She had lived in Spokane for 28 years and was a licensed practical nurse. She worked at Rivercrest Convalescent Center and retired in the 1980s.
She is survived by her husband of 12 years, Gerald Gersitz.
Donald Davis Spokane
Funeral Mass for Donald J. Davis, 83, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at The Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Davis, who died Sunday, was born in American Falls, Idaho. He retired from the Idaho Department of Highways in 1977 and moved to Spokane.
He was a member of The Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes and the Spokane Club. He was active in Service Corps of Retired Executives and Manito Lions Club.
He served in the Navy during World War II.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Charlotte; one son, Donald Davis of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; two daughters, Mary Nell Jackson of Iowa City, Iowa, and Liz Sestero of Spokane; and 11 grandchildren.
Marjorie Pierpoint Spokane
Service for Marjorie W. Pierpoint, 81, will be at 11 a.m. today at Nicoles Funeral Home in Ephrata, Wash. Burial will follow at Valley View Memorial Park in Soap Lake, Wash.
Mrs. Pierpoint died Friday at Sacred Heart Hospital.
She was born in Wilson Creek, Wash., and lived most of her life in the Coulee City, Wash., area.
She retired from the Coulee City post office after 34 years. She had moved to Spokane seven years ago.
Mrs. Pierpoint was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Hartline, Wash., The Women’s Club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
She is survived by two sons, Terry of Redlands, Calif., and Neil of Spokane; two daughters, Theda Gordon and Gladys Riddle, both of Coulee City; three sisters, Jean Patrick of Portland, Mary Benson of Seattle and Jackie Scuppisser of California; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Evelyn Latham Spokane
Service for Evelyn V. Latham, 94, will be at noon today at Hazen and Jaegar Funeral Home with burial at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
Mrs. Latham, who died Sunday, was a lifetime Spokane resident.
She was a homemaker, and was a member of the Presbyterian church.
Her husband, Lyman Latham, died in 1993.
She is survived by one granddaughter, Diane Materne-Garcia of Spokane and two grandsons, Mike Materne of Spokane and Mark Materne.

Marguerite Kraus Spokane
Memorial service for Marguerite L. “Peg” Kraus, 91, will be at 10 a.m. today at Pines Cemetery Mausoleum. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Kraus, who died Sunday, was born in Texarkana, Ark.
She lived in Spokane for 70 years and had worked for Berg’s Junior Shoes.
Survivors include two daughters, Evelyn Oakley of Spokane and Margaret Brock of Atlanta; one sister, Helen Feldhausen of Seattle; one brother, John Feldhausen of Spokane; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Rhoda Simpson Colville, Wash.
Service for Rhoda C. Simpson, 84, will be at 2 p.m. today at Colville Latter Day Saints Stake Center. Graveside service will follow at Mountain View Park Cemetery in Colville. Danekas Funeral Home in Colville is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Simpson, former owner of Colville Floral and Greenhouse, died Thursday.
She was born in Mantua, Utah, and had lived in Colville since 1957.
She is survived by one son, Robert Owens of Colville; one sister, Rhea Andersen of Tremonton, Utah; and six grandchildren.
Erling Williams Spokane
No service is planned for Erling Williams, 90. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of cremation.
Born in Norway, Mr. Williams died Sunday.
He had lived in Spokane for 53 years and retired from the Great Northern Railway.
His wife, Ruth Williams, died in 1989.
He is survived by two sons, Richard Williams Sr. and David Williams, both of Spokane; eight grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
