Dollar Hits 6-Month High Vs. Yen
The dollar rose to a six-month high against the yen Wednesday after two Japanese banking institutions failed.
But the dollar fell against other leading currencies, with the exception of a slight gain against the mark as a short-term German interest rate was lowered.
Japanese officials suspended the operations of the nation’s largest credit union, Kizu Shinyo Kumiai, and ordered the dissolution of Hyogo Bank.
In late New York trading, the dollar fetched 99.01 yen, up from 98.05 late Tuesday. The dollar also edged up to 1.4766 marks in New York from 1.4765 marks Tuesday.
