Mead Rebounds From Rout, Downs Kennewick 54-46

Ralph Castaneda scored 19 points and Matt Armitage matched his career high with 13 as Mead bounced back from a big road loss for a 54-46 victory at Kennewick Saturday night.

Armitage put the Panthers (1-1) up for good with a 3-pointer in the second quarter. Castaneda did his damage by hitting eight of 14 shots. Both players added seven rebounds.

Damian Long had eight steals for Mead, which lost 83-50 at Pasco on Friday night.

Paul Mencke rebounded a missed LC free throw in the final minute and was fouled, sinking both free throws to seal the visiting Tigers’ (1-0) win over the Greyhounds (0-2).

Mencke finished with 19 points and seven rebounds as the Tigers took advantage of 28 Pullman turnovers. The Greyhounds made 15 of 18 free throws, including a 10-for-10 performance by Tim Wang, who had 16 points.

The Titans (1-0) outscored the Chiefs (0-2) 22-9 in the fourth quarter to pull away for the road win.

U-Hi, which trailed by five at halftime, was led by Kelly Hineman’s 22 points, which included three 3-pointers in the second quarter as the Titans rallied from five down. Hineman and Zaq Flanery each had 10 rebounds.

The Blackhawks (1-1) hit 10 of 13 from the foul line in the fourth quarter to secure their win over the Highlanders (0-1) at Shadle Park.

The Highlanders opened an early lead but Cheney rallied to take a 29-27 lead at halftime and stretched that to 50-39 entering the fourth quarter.

The visiting Bulldogs (2-0) opened a 20-point lead at halftime and the Indians (1-1) never recovered.

Kelly Herron had 18 points, including three 3-pointers, to lead Pasco. Adam Hieb was the only NC player to reach double figures with 16.

The Bullpups (2-0) recovered after blowing most of a big lead to post a road win over the Blue Devils (0-1).

Prep raced to a 39-17 lead at the half but was outscored 21-10 in the third quarter and allowed the Blue Devils to get within seven at the end.

The Saxons (2-0) got 23 points from Scott Stocum and 21 from Leonard Harmon and finally put away the Bombers (0-2) for the road win.

No team could build a lead bigger than three points in the first half, but Pasco opened a seven-point margin in the third quarter before the Saxons tied it entering the fourth.

Stocum got a key basket off an offensive rebound to make it 58-54 for Ferris in the final minutes. Justin Bursch then iced it with clutch foul shooting.

The Knights (0-2) were down seven points with 20 seconds to go before converting a three-point play with 7 seconds left and sinking a 3-pointer as time ran out, allowing the Pirates (1-1) to pick up the road win.

Rogers rallied from a seven-point deficit at halftime by going to the line 24 times, 37 total for the game.

De’Andrey Mosbey pumped in 22 points for Rogers and Nathan Smith added 15. James Spotted Horse had 22 points, eight boards and five steals for East Valley but fouled out with 4 minutes to play.

Josh Hall pumped in 30 points but it wasn’t enough as the Eagles jumped out to an early lead and beat the visiting Rams (1-1) in a shootout.

Connell was up 20-9 after one quarter but Riverside crept back within seven by the start of the fourth quarter before the Eagles pulled away.
