Mall With Tidyman’s Gets Council Approval

From Staff Reports

A $10-million strip mall that includes a Tidyman’s grocery store, video store and several small retailers was approved by the Spokane City Council earlier this week.

Tomlinson Black plans to build the 130,000-square-foot Latah Creek Plaza on 20 acres between Cheney-Spokane Road and U.S. Highway 195.

The council let stand a ruling by city Hearing Examiner Greg Smith, who denied a second minimall proposal in favor of the Tomlinson Black plan.

The Latah Creek neighborhood plan allows only one commercial development in the area.

George and Margaret Chica wanted to build a minimall on 16 acres they own at Meadowland Road and U.S. Highway 195.

The Spokane couple’s mall proposal included plans for a bank, convenience store and home-and-garden center.

According to Smith’s report, Tomlinson Black’s contract with Tidyman’s was the winning move in determining whose plans were approved.

“I frankly don’t see any reason to overturn the hearing examiner’s decision,” said Mayor Jack Geraghty. , DataTimes
