First Vietnamese Executed In U.S.

Compiled From Wire Services

A Vietnamese man who killed two people in a pool hall became the first Asian executed in the United States since the present era of capital punishment began almost two decades ago.

Hai Hai Vuong, 40, received a lethal injection exactly nine years after his shooting spree that killed two men and wounded five others.

He was the second condemned killer executed in Texas within 24 hours and the fifth in the nation this week. Florida had two executions and Missouri one earlier in the week.
