Cabbie Robbed After Driving Man 6 Hours

From Staff And Wire Reports

A man robbed a cabdriver early Thursday after riding about six hours with him, Spokane police said.

The Yellow Cab driver picked up the customer about midnight and took him as requested to the Valley. Then they made a series of stops, including several trips to the 1100 block of West First downtown, an area frequented by drug dealers and prostitutes, police said.

To cover the cost of the mounting fare, the driver asked his customer for money periodically throughout the trip. Each time, the man complied.

Shortly before 6 a.m., the driver told the customer his shift was ending and offered to call another cab.

The man then pulled out a handgun and demanded the driver’s money along with the fare he’d already paid. He left on foot at Sixth and McClellan, police said.

The driver could only provide a sketchy description of the robber, and police have no suspects. , DataTimes
