Phoenix Jets: Done Deal?
Negotiations to bring the Winnipeg Jets to Arizona next season have been completed and all that remains is approval from the National Hockey League.
Jerry Colangelo, the chief negotiator for Phoenix and owner of the NBA’s Phoenix Suns and major league baseball’s expansion team, the Arizona Diamondbacks, said Jets owners Richard Burke and Steven Gluckstern will sign a letter of intent Tuesday in New York.
The Devils agreed on the terms of a multimillion dollar loan in what looks to be the final step in keeping the team in New Jersey.
Terms of the agreement were not officially announced, although a public relations said the loan was for $25 million over 12 years.
Devils spokesman John Hewig would not say what the loan would be used for, but he did say it was connected with the recent 12-year agreement with the New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authoriy.
Defenseman Dean Chynoweth was traded by the New York Islanders to the Boston Bruins on for a fifth-round draft pick in next year’s entry draft.
Chynoweth, the 13th overall pick in the 1987 draft, played in 14 games for the Islanders this season with no goals, one assist and 40 penalty minutes.
