Walk-On Leads Wisconsin To First Ncaa Soccer Title
Former walk-on Lars Hansen scored off a rebound in the ninth minute, and Wisconsin rode its fifth straight shutout in the NCAA tournament to its first championship by beating Duke 2-0 Sunday.
The Badgers (20-4-1) completed the season with seven straight shutouts and 17 overall. They allowed only 11 goals all season, and never more than two.
Hansen, who made Wisconsin as a walk-on in 1992, beat goalkeeper John Morton after a shot by Travis Roy caromed off a crowd in front of the net. The play started on a corner kick from the right side.
