Allen Investment Boosts Broderbund
Broderbund Software Inc. shares shot up 5.7 percent Monday after it was disclosed that the co-founder of Microsoft Corp., Paul G. Allen, has spent nearly $60 million to acquire a large stake in the company.
Allen, in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, revealed he purchased 1.03 million shares, or 5 percent of the Novato, Calif.-based Broderbund, maker of personal computer software.
Broderbund’s stock rallied after the announcement, rising $3.31-1/4 to $61.31-1/4 a share with 1.9 million shares changing hands.
