Insurers Urged To Honor Policies For Troops In Bosnia

Associated Press

Sen. Frank Lautenberg urged life insurance companies Tuesday to honor the policies of any U.S. soldier killed enforcing peace in the former Yugoslavia if the policy contained a war exclusion clause.

Ken Vest, spokesman for the insurance council, said the group has been studying the issue and that most troops do not have to worry about a war exclusion clause.

All active-duty personnel are covered automatically, and reservists also can buy servicemen’s group life insurance that would cover their families if they are killed during the mission, Vest said.
