Ranchers Upset Wolves Arrived Without Notice

Associated Press

Ranchers northeast of Yellowstone National Park are upset over the government’s failure to alert them about a pack of wolves that moved into the area and killed a hunting dog last week.

Authorities, who have no plans to move the pack back to the park, admit the ranchers were not notified that the radio-collared wolves were nearby, but land managers said that was because they were unaware of the pack’s move into the area. High winds kept the wolves from being tracked by air on Monday.

Ed Bangs, who heads the federal wolf reintroduction effort, said the presence of wolves is no more a cause for alarm than the presence of mountain lions or grizzly bears.
