Burma Wins Ban On Critical Movie

Compiled From Wire Services

Bowing to a protest from Burma, the United Nations canceled the screening of a movie critical of the southeast Asian nation’s military government.

“Beyond Rangoon” had been scheduled for a Wednesday showing in the U.N. staff union.

The film features Patricia Arquette as an American in Burma during a 1988 military crackdown on the country’s pro-democracy movement.

The Burmese government said the film “was deliberately misleading.”
