Newborn Twins Found In Bag In Park Restroom Couple Out For Drive In The Country Happen Across Two Infants
Debby Brewer thought the cries she heard were coming from kittens in a duffel bag left in the restroom of an isolated park.
Instead, the cries were from abandoned newborn twins.
The boy and girl - now called “Joseph Noel” and “Mary Noelle” by nurses - were in good condition Thursday at the Bay Medical Center. They were believed to be about 36 hours old when Brewer found them Tuesday night.
“It really is a miracle considering where the babies were left,” Brewer said. “It’s very remote.”
Brewer, 35, and her boyfriend, Scott Price, 29, were out for an evening drive when they stopped to use the restroom at the Lake Powell Recreation Area, about 20 miles west of Panama City.
“I saw the duffel bag sitting right in the middle of the floor. I kept hearing sounds and I thought it was kittens.
“I got down on my knees and unzipped it real slowly, not knowing what was going to come out and (saw) a baby. I jumped up, ran outside and screamed at Scott ‘There’s a baby in here.”’
Brewer unzipped the bag farther and saw the second baby.
Brewer dialed 911 on her cellular phone, and an ambulance met them about halfway to the hospital.
The babies probably would have died if left overnight in the 50-degree temperatures.
