UW Extends Lambright’s Contract Through 1999
On their wedding anniversary Friday, Jim and Lynne Lambright had an extra reason for what he called, “one more good, long toast.” His contract as football coach at the University of Washington was extended through 1999.
Lambright’s $160,000 annual salary was not an issue. That’s something athletic director Barbara Hedges said would be dealt with after the Huskies’ Dec. 29 appearance in the Sun Bowl.
The four-year rollover contract, though, needed approval from firstyear president Richard McCormick.
“That’s the big thing to me,” Lambright said. “The president approved the concept.”
The pact is such that it is automatically extended to four years at the end of a season unless the president invokes an option to prevent it.
With radio, television and other considerations not funded directly by the university, Lambright’s football income actually is in excess of $400,000, and that figure can be expected to increase next month.
