Camacho Charged With Assault

Welterweight champion Hector “Macho” Camacho was charged with aggravated assault and domestic violence for allegedly pushing his pregnant girlfriend.

Neither the woman, Amy Torres, 30, nor the fetus was hurt. Ordinarily, Camacho, 33, would have been charged with simple battery, a misdemeanor, said an Orange County sheriff’s spokesman. But because Torres is 2-1/2 months pregnant, deputies charged Camacho with a felony.

The woman did not want to press charges, said her sister, Margie Torres, who added that Camacho had never hit his girlfriend. Margie Torres said Camacho simply was trying to calm her sister during an argument Friday, and that a neighbor called police.
