Islanders Ask Unhappy Star To Rejoin Team

New York Times

Kirk Muller’s paid vacation is now officially over. And, for the time being, it looks like he will be donning an Islander sweater.

Mike Milbury, the Islanders’ coach and general manager, was unable to beat his self-imposed Saturday-night deadline and swing a deal for Muller, the unhappy forward whom the Islanders sent into exile five weeks ago.

So Milbury has requested that Muller come back and join a team for whom he desperately does not want to play. Muller’s agent, Mike Barnett, has repeatedly said that his client would not have a problem with returning should the Islanders request him to do so.

Muller will likely hook up with the Islanders in Dallas on Thursday, when the Islanders play the Stars on the back end of a two-game road trip.
