Cart Takes On Indy 500

Championship Auto Racing Teams, in a battle with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway over guaranteed starting positions in the Indianapolis 500, will conduct its own event Memorial Day weekend.

CART’s board of directors voted to stage the U.S. 500 - in direct competition with the Indianapolis 500 - May 26. CART spokesman Adam Saal said such marquee race drivers as Al Unser Jr., Michael Andretti and Emerson Fittipaldi would compete in the new race at Michigan International Speedway.
