Cda Suspends Four Basketball Players

Three Coeur d’Alene High School girls basketball players, two of whom are starters, have been suspended for two weeks for violating the school’s athletic code at a party last week.

Two Lake City varsity cheerleaders and one LC boys basketball player also have been suspended for violating the athletic code.

The suspensions took effect Wednesday. The students will be allowed to return to their activities Jan. 2, school officials said.

School officials declined to identify the students.

The CdA players will miss two games during their suspension, Vikings coach Sheila Sharp said.

Sharp, who was told not to identify the players, said she will be missing three starters Wednesday when her team, 3-8 overall, plays Sugar-Salem (9-0), the No. 1-ranked A-2 team in Idaho, in the first night of the CdA/ LC holiday classic tournament.

Starter Kim Pearson, not one of the suspended players, will miss the game because she will be at a student government event in Boise, Sharp said. Pearson will be back for the Viks’ game Thursday.

Sharp said she will be down to six eligible players Wednesday and will bring four players up from the junior varsity to field a team.

“It won’t be a big mystery who isn’t playing,” said Sharp, who said the suspended players are likely to sit on the bench in street clothes. “We won’t be missing all of our starters. This is just one more thing where we have to regroup from. We were just starting to get to the point where we were putting some things together.”
