Jockey Hurt; Horse Destroyed
Jockey Nick Santagata was in “guarded, critical condition” in a hospital after a three-horse spill in the first race at Aqueduct.
Two riders, Rafael Mojica and Filiberto Leon, were shaken up but received only minor injuries.
“I’m OK, except it hurts when I breath,” said Santagata, who was wearing a protective vest.
Santagata’s mount, Time for Another, fell entering the stretch. Calais and Gray Dawn Pixie were unable to avoid the fallen horse and fell over her. Time for Another was destroyed on the track. The other two horses appeared to have escaped serious injury.
