Concrete Cornice Falls From Downtown Garage
Falling concrete rattled the Parkade Sunday morning, sending visions of bombs dancing through shoppers’ heads.
Firefighters responded at 11:22 a.m. to reports of a building explosion at the Parkade Plaza, at Main and Howard.
The boom wasn’t a bomb. Santa’s reindeer weren’t flying too low, and the sky wasn’t falling.
The culprit was a 2-foot-long chunk of concrete, about four inches thick. It apparently fell from a Parkade cornice and struck the metal roof of the skywalk on the west side of the plaza.
Firefighters temporarily closed Howard from Main to Riverside while the building was checked. Afterward, a building department official said the Parkade’s structural integrity remains sound. , DataTimes
