Freezing Fog Causes 30-Car Pileup On I-5

From Staff And Wire Reports

A 30-car pileup in freezing fog on Interstate 5 south of Albany killed one person Sunday.

The chain-reaction accident occurred about 9:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes near the Halsey-Sweet Home interchange, according to Dave Davis, Oregon Department of Transportation spokesman.

The victim was identified as Myrtle Mae Wilmouth Powers, 62, of Salem, said Lt. Bernie Giusto, Oregon State Police spokesman.

He said troopers at the scene had no reports of any other serious injuries and most of the cars involved sustained only minor damage.
