Lighter Causes Apartment Fire That Kills Child

A 3-year-old child died in a fire at an apartment complex Sunday, fire officials in this Seattle suburb said.

The child’s mother was listed in critical condition with burns at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Killed in the fire was Shanekqua Croon, the King County medical examiner’s office said.

Two other children, 5 and 11, escaped without apparent injury.

Firefighters said the fire apparently was started by a child playing with a lighter.
