Gunman Kills Eagle Scout Teenagers Think Killer Followed Them From Convenience Store

Associated Press

An Eagle Scout from Kitsap County was killed early Thursday in a drive-by shooting in north Seattle.

The King County medical examiner’s office identified the victim as Trevor James Aurand, 16, a high school student from Indianola.

Aurand was in a car with four other teens who were returning to a holiday gathering about 1 a.m. after a trip to a convenience store, police spokesman Sean O’Donnell said. None of the youths were gang members, and they were unarmed, he said.

The teens told police they believed they were followed from the convenience store, where they had exchanged angry words with a man.

“They noticed a vehicle tailgating them and heard what sounded like firecrackers,” O’Donnell said. “They realized they were being fired on.”

One shot hit Aurand in the head. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center, where he died.

The teens had worked together during a Boy Scout summer camp and had gotten together for a holiday dinner and gift exchange, police said. They were described as being from Maple Valley, Indianola, Poulsbo and Kingston.
