Idaho St. Holds On To Top Gonzaga

Stacy Nelson tossed in 18 points, including three 3-pointers, to rally Idaho State to a 67-63 victory over host Gonzaga Thursday night.

The Bulldogs (1-8) jumped out to a 17-9 lead after the first 8 minutes. Idaho State (5-4) then went on a 15-4 run, capped by a Nelson 3-point basket, to take a 24-21 lead.

Gonzaga’s Joy Pauley, who finished with a game-high 19 points, put the Bulldogs on top 35-34 early in the second half. The lead changed hands or was tied eight times over the final 15 minutes.

The Bengals took the lead for good on an Amber Bray jumper with 3:34 left in the game.

The Gauchos used a big advantage at the free throw line to knock off the visiting Eagles.

UCSB made 21-of-34 foul shots for the game to just 7-of-17 for Eastern.

Shana Ray and Kristy Missall led the Eagles with 13 points apiece.

Dixie College of Utah held the Community Colleges of Spokane to just 27 percent shooting from the floor in the first half and then held on for a win in the Grossmont College Tournament in San Diego.

CCS pulled to within three points with 5 minutes left in the game but could get no closer.

Kelly Gaines paced CCS with 12 points while teammate Annie Shepherd added 10 points. CCS takes on Eastern Arizona today at 9 a.m.
