Athlete Died From Enlarged Heart

A McComb, Miss., high school athlete, who collapsed and died after being taken out of a basketball tournament, suffered from an enlarged heart, Hinds County Coroner Robert Martin said.

Greg McDowell, 18, who also was a standout in football and track, was sitting on the bench Thursday night when he slumped forward. School officials and emergency medical personnel tried to revive McDowell, who was pronounced dead at Methodist Medical Center at 7:10 p.m.
