Man Faces Assault Charge After Fatal Confrontation
A 48-year-old man accused of fatally shooting a woman in a dispute over a loud party at her house was charged with two new counts of first-degree assault on Friday.
In addition, a Spokane County judge who presided at Adrian A. Price’s initial appearance on the assault charges increased the defendant’s bail from $40,000 to $100,000.
Price was arrested after the shooting death of Megan Marie Winebrenner early Tuesday morning. Price is charged with second-degree murder in the slaying and was in the Spokane County Jail on Friday night.
Two men who had been at a party at Winebrenner’s northeast home also were hit by shotgun pellets. The men were not seriously hurt.
Prosecutors Friday filed two first-degree assault charges against Price in those shootings.
About a dozen young people were at the Christmas Day party when a dispute arose, leading to a confrontation outside Price’s home, police said.
Price told police he was trying to get some sleep, and had yelled to the party goers to turn down the music.
Winebrenner and the two men apparently jumped over a fence into Price’s yard while the man grabbed a shotgun, police said.
Price told police he felt threatened by the trio and intended to scare them off by firing over their heads. But he said the gun fired as it was raised, and Winebrenner was hit in the chest.
