Man Sues Over Coffee Spilled On Airplane
Chalk up another hot-coffee-in-the-lap suit, this one stemming from an incident on an airplane.
A lawyer, Stephen Tigerman, sued his travel agency and America Trans Air over a spill aboard a flight from San Francisco to Hawaii in October 1994.
The suit said a flight attendant put a cup of coffee on his tray table and the tray tilted, spilling the coffee - 20 to 30 degrees hotter than it should have been - into his lap.
He was treated in a Maui hospital for burns.
His suit, filed in San Francisco Superior Court, contends the airline and travel agency knew or should have known that the tray table and coffee were “dangerous and/or defective.”. The suit asks $1,500 in medical costs, $1,500 for his lost vacation time and $3,000 for pain and suffering.
Back in business: The California Palace of the Legion of Honor reopened last month after a three-year, $36.5 million restoration.
The project encompassed interior and exterior, a two-level expansion underneath the building and a seismic retrofitting.
The museum reopened with two exhibitions: “Picasso the Sculptor,” a collaborative effort with the Musee Picasso in Paris consisting of 15 sculptures, and “Treasures of the Achenbach,” which included 280 works from the museum’s collection of graphic art. Information: (415) 863-3330.
