Leone Gregg Priest River, Idaho

Memorial service for Leone Gregg, 72, is set for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash.

Mrs. Gregg died Thursday at a Spokane hospital. She was born in Elk.

She graduated from Riverside High School. In 1951 she married Chester Gregg in Coeur d’Alene.

They ranched in the Furport area, north of Newport, Wash., until the early 1960s. They subdivided their property into what is now known as Gregg’s Addition.

Mrs. Gregg worked as a cook for the Newport School District from 1966 until 1974. She had lived in Priest River for the past year and a half.

She was a member of the Skookum Grange and was a volunteer with the American Cancer Society.

Her husband died in 1981.

Mrs. Gregg is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Jensen of Missoula and Pat Gregg of Spokane; three grandsons and five great-grandchildren.

Theodore Neu Copeland, Idaho

Service for Theodore H.R. “Ted” Neu, 85, will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Bonners Ferry (Idaho) Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Copeland Cemetery near Bonners Ferry. Bonners Ferry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Neu, who was born in Arnold, Neb., died Sunday.

He grew up and received his education in Nebraska and in 1928 moved to Copeland.

Mr. Neu served with the Army during World War II, later returning to Copeland. He married Margaret Goyen in 1950.

He worked as a farmer, rancher and logger and also operated a leather shop before retiring in 1987.

He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and leather work.

He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the National Rifle Association.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Walter Neu of Naples, Idaho; three daughters, Neva Fulton, Hazel Neu and Eunice Neu, all of Copeland; one sister, Margie Waltz of Spokane; one grandson, one granddaughter, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Melva Johnson Camden, Wash.

Graveside service for Melva M. Johnson, 71, was Friday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace in Spokane.

Mrs. Johnson died Monday at the Newport (Wash.) Community Hospital.

She was born in Grangeville, Idaho.

In 1939 she married Kenneth Johnson Sr. in Spokane.

She had lived in the Camden area for more than 30 years and previously lived in Spokane. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband; one son, Ken Johnson Jr., of Elk; three daughters, Loretta Wendt of Las Vegas, Nev., Sharon Malvania of Spokane and Lori Johnson of Newport; three sisters, Lena Achinson and Ruth Evans, both of the Seattle area, and Dorothy Johnson of Ohio; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

John Pederson Seaside, Ore.

Service for John Pederson, former director of the Union Gospel Mission in Spokane, was Dec 23 at Bible Baptist Church in Klamath Falls, Ore.

Mr. Pederson, 84, died Dec. 20, in Seaside after suffering a heart attack.

He was born in Fresno, Calif., and came to Spokane from Klamath Falls in 1958. He served as superintendent of the Union Gospel Mission and was largely responsible for a major remodeling.

During his tenure, Union Gospel Mission Ministries opened Anna Ogden Hall, a shelter for women and children.

Mr. Pederson retired in 1976 and returned to Klamath Falls, where he farmed until 1992.

He and his wife of 63 years, Cora, had recently moved to Seaside to be near their daughter.

He is survived by a son, John Pederson of Redding, Calif.; a daughter, Muriel Elder of Seaside; 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Kenneth Kohler Spokane

Memorial service for Kenneth Charles “Ken” Kohler, 75, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Riplinger Funeral Home.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Kohler died Wednesday.

He served in the Army as an infantry company aide in World War II and was in the 1st Company, 27th Infantry, 25th Division as a technical sergeant.

He worked for Great Northern Railway and at Kaiser Aluminum in Trentwood for 31 years. He retired in 1983.

Mr. Kohler was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, the Washington State and National Horseshoe Pitchers Associations and the Spokane Horseshoe Club.

Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Evi Kohler; two stepdaughters, Ruszelen “Rose” Wunderlich and Deborah Aube, both of Newport, Wash.; a stepson, Gary Aube of Shelton, Wash.; six stepgrandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren.

Ruth Sullivan Spokane

Service for Ruth W. Sullivan, 78, was Dec. 21 at Pines Mausoleum Chapel.

Mrs. Sullivan, who died Dec. 3, was born in Alva, Okla.

She had lived in Spokane for 70 years and graduated from Sacred Heart School of Nursing as a licensed practical nurse.

She worked at Interlake School in Medical Lake for many years and retired in 1975. She had also worked in local nursing homes and hospitals.

She was active with the Valley Senior Center and was a member of the Valley Elks Lodge.

She is survived by three brothers, Jack and Arthur Wallis Jr., both of Spokane, and Thomas Wallis of Montana.

Gilbert Edwards Spokane

Graveside service for Gilbert T. Edwards, 72, was Tuesday at Mount Nebo Cemetery.

Born in San Francisco, Mr. Edwards died Sunday.

He was a buyer for Rusan’s for many years and had lived in Spokane for 25 years.

He was a member of Temple Beth Shalom.

Mr. Edwards is survived by his wife of 48 years, Marion Edwards; three sons, Marc Edwards of West Hartford, Conn., Brian Edwards of Amanda Park, Wash., and Larry Edwards of Oakland, Calif.; one brother, Bert Edwards of Vancouver, British Columbia; and three grandchildren.

Sarah Bailey Spokane

Memorial service for Sarah B. Bailey, 87, will be at a later date. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bailey, who died Dec. 22, was born in Yuma County, Colo. She had lived in Spokane for more than 66 years.

She graduated from Deaconess School of Nursing and worked as a registered nurse in hospitals.

She was a member of the Spokane Valley Church of the Nazarene and the Washington State Nurses Association.

Her first husband, Lawrence McGeath, died in 1959. Her second husband, Marshall Bailey, died in November.

Mrs. Bailey is survived by one daughter, Arlene Barnes of Spokane; one son, Lawrence McGeath of Edmonds, Wash.; one stepdaughter, Beverly Krusee of Portland; three stepsons, Robert and Richard Bailey, both of Portland, and Donald Bailey of Wenatchee; three sisters, Josephine Pottreatz of Spokane, Fannie Young of Walla Walla and Ester Davis of Seattle; six grandchildren, nine stepgrandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.

Howard Coffman Spokane

Private service for Howard A. Coffman, 77, was held in California. Burial will be at a later date at Fairmount Memorial Park in Spokane. Desert Hot Springs Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Coffman died Sunday in Desert Hot Springs, Calif., where he and his wife lived in the winter.

He was born in Mead.

He served in the Navy for 24 years, and after he retired, he worked as chief of security for Spokane School District 81 for eight years.

He is survived by his wife, Shirlee Coffman; three sons, Robert Halliday of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Curtis and Kevin Brown, both of Spokane; one daughter, Kerri Kirk of Spokane; one brother, Dean Coffman of Chico, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

Irene McIntyre Spokane

Private graveside service for Irene M. McIntyre, 71, was held Wednesday at Greenwood Cemetery.

Mrs. McIntyre, who died Dec. 22, was born in Spokane and had worked as a caregiver for the elderly.

Her husband, John McIntyre, died in 1980.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Isabelle Emery Mercer Island, Wash.

Family memorial service for Sarah Isabelle (Rothwell) Emery, 95, will be held. Green Funeral Home in Bellevue, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Emery, who died last Sunday, was born in Kendrick, Idaho.

She moved to Spokane and graduated from Holy Names Academy and worked as a secretary. She was the longtime secretary at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist.

Her husband, Glen Emery, died in 1952.

She moved to Mercer Island 10 years ago.

Mrs. Emery is survived by one daughter, Jean Peterson of Bellevue; one son, John Emery of Seattle; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Annie Stanford Spokane

No service will be held for Annie T. (MacKenzie) Stanford, 79.

Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Mrs. Stanford died Dec. 15 at Sullivan Care Center.

She married Earle Stanford in Winnipeg in 1938. He preceded her in death.

She had worked in the bakery at Albertsons and moved to Spokane in 1953 from Castlegar, British Columbia.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Magnolia Chapter No. 194.

Mrs. Stanford is survived by two daughters, Barbara Smith of Otis Orchards and Debbie Singer of San Diego; two sisters, Rhoda Davis and Mary Moreau, both of Winnipeg; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children.

Robert Brandt Spokane

Private cremation for Robert W. Brandt will be held. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Brandt, 80, died Monday.

He was born in Moscow, Idaho, and moved to Spokane as an infant. He graduated from North Central High School.

He became the manager of the Spokane branch of Local Loan Co. until he formed Power Loan, which he co-owned for approximately 10 years.

He moved to Seattle for a short time and returned to Spokane in 1981.

He was a member of the Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Audrey Brandt; one son, Gary Brandt of Spokane; one daughter, Cheryl Mehaffey of Seattle; and one grandson.
