Millrose Disappoints

Sergei Bubka, the only pole vaulter to clear 20 feet, managed only 18-8 1/4 as he finished second to 1992 Olympic silver medalist Igor Trandenkov of Russia, who cleared 19-1/4, late Friday at the Millrose Games.

Jackie Joyner-Kersee, the 1988 Olympic gold medalist and the American indoor and outdoor record-holder in the women’s long jump, was beaten by 1992 Olympic champion Heike Drechsler of Germany. Drechsler soared 22-10 while Joyner-Kersee, in her season debut, was as 22-5 1/4.
