Farrington Gets His First WSU Baseball Victory
Ryan Post, in relief of starter Robert Ramsay, threw three innings of no-hit ball as Washington State’s baseball team pounded out 12 hits in beating host Long Beach State 9-7 on Sunday.
The win was the Cougars’ first in four games this season and the first for new Cougars head coach Steve Farrington.
WSU battled back from a 7-4 deficit, scoring three times in the seventh, then adding two more runs in the eighth. Meanwhile, Post struck out three, walked one and hit one Forty-Niner in throwing the final three innings.
Mike Kinkade had the big blow in the three-run seventh, sending two runners home with a single to left field. Pinch hitter Jim Horner followed with a two-run single.
WSU completes its five-game trip to Southern California today with a 2 p.m. game at CS-Northridge.
Junior hockey: In Grand Forks, British Columbia, Darin Talotti scored while Spokane was shorthanded by two players, and Brandon Whitver scored into an empty net with 8 seconds remaining as the Braves posted a 2-0 win over Grand Forks in Kootenay International Junior Hockey League play.
